Now Offering Comprehensive Sustainability Solutions to Fuel Companywide Growth
March 23, 2011 - OwlPoint and Corporate Sustainability, Inc. are pleased to announce a formal partnership that will provide clients with a full suite of corporate sustainability program options.
Nora Simpson, Corporate Sustainability, Inc's Chief Operating Officer and Head of Training and Development, states it this way, "By working together, we can use a business value-focused perspective on environmental sustainability as a catalyst for firm-wide growth. When implemented across the board, our corporate sustainability programs can generate massive revenue and profit growth as well as improved efficiencies and brand approval."
Owlpoint is a leader in Green IT and energy efficiency implementation in all areas of energy usage, from large-scale data centers to cubicle- level thermostat management. OwlPoint's expertise has been showcased in articles in Processor magazine, as well as At Your Service, the itSMF International Magazine.
OwlPoint CEO Mark Blanke also sees this partnership as a way to change the perception that Green IT is merely about reducing impact on the environment.
"It's not just about reducing waste in landfills; it's really about business value and the bottom line. True sustainability promotes long range thinking and, in the end, saving money. With our Smart Energy Suite™ powered by Green 20 Now, we've proven that by using green building management to meet real business needs, a company can see a huge cost savings in a short space of time."
Corporate Sustainability, Inc's executive team is uniquely qualified to develop long-term sustainability programs for leading edge organizations. Steve Boston, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer of Corporate Sustainability, Inc, was previously the Chief Sustainability Officer at a Fortune 500 software company. There, he slashed the company's global carbon footprint by 41% in 18 months, achieved a 20-fold return on investment in efficiency-based operational cost savings, and launched a new family of software products projected to generate $1Billion in new revenue within two years.
Mr. Boston relates, "As business leaders, we know that corporations exist to create value. Therefore, spending critical resources on non-value-generating activities cannot last. Instead, we guide our clients to apply their best competitive advantages to creating profitable solutions that drive both growth and public approval."
Ms. Simpson sums it up with the statement, "If businesses embrace resource sustainability and environmental restoration as a critical methodology for value creation, both the economy and the environment stand to gain vast benefits."

OwlPoint CEO Featured in At Your Service, the itSMF International Magazine
Mark Blanke's expert opinion on Green IT and how to get the most benefit from going green
December 23, 2010 - OwlPoint is pleased to announce that CEO Mark Blanke's article entitled "Green IT: Giving CSI a Purpose" has been published in At Your Service, the official magazine of the IT Service Management Forum.
"There are a lot of misconceptions about Green IT practices and what they mean to a company's bottom line," states Mr. Blanke. "This article gives me the opportunity to show people how to leverage IT Service Management principals to drive energy savings"
The article focuses on how to leverage process improvement best practices to make IT greener. "Many companies already have formal process improvement methodologies implemented, and it is easy to leverage existing capabilities to facilitate energy efficiency improvements.
The article coincides with the launch of OwlPoint's Smart Energy Suite powered by Green 20 Now. OwlPoint's Smart Energy Suite has brought green building management forward to better meet real business needs. It leverages cloud computing and patent-pending technology to provide a simple, easy-to-use energy management system.
Mr. Blanke explains, "With better measurement of data center energy use and its discrete components, much better decisions can be made about opportunities to save electricity, as well as to prove that the changes that have been made actually resulted in increased efficiency."
With this system, by using any web browser, execs can access an advanced dashboard and informative iGoogle graphs that provide high-level, real-time views of energy spending, consumption, and carbon emissions.
Mr. Blanke elaborates by saying, "By reporting on the energy improvements, the returns can be quantified and proven, which allows for additional improvements to be supported in the future. This process of continual service improvement results in bigger improvements over time, as opposed to just one-off projects."

OwlPoint CEO Featured in Processor Magazine
Mark Blanke’s expert opinion on data center equipment costs and how to keep them down
December 8, 2010 - OwlPoint is pleased to announce that CEO Mark Blanke is once again featured in the new issue of Processor magazine in an article entitled, As Equipment Prices Inch Skyward, Data Centers Seek Better Purchasing Strategies.
“The timing of this article couldn’t be better. In a couple weeks, people are going to start using the 2011 budget to buy new equipment and it’s important to think these purchases through and not just buy the cheapest equipment out there,” states Mr. Blanke. “There’s a lot more to consider than just initial cost.”
The article focuses on the many points to consider when replacing data center servers. While many people now have the perception that data storage should be cheap, that shortsightedness can lead to trouble.
“For instance,” Blanke says, “if you are looking to replace a set of older servers, can you combine this with the implementation of virtualization and replace a larger amount of servers, thereby saving money on electricity, space, and maintenance costs? Can you also utilize the virtual environment to provide enhanced business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities or meet other risk mitigation objectives?”
The notion of buying new equipment dovetails with the launch of OwlPoint’s Data Center Energy Performance Assessment. This latest offering allows organizations to benchmark its data center energy efficiency against comparable best-in-class data centers. Armed with this information, companies can then drive continuous process improvements to ensure return on investment.
“There’s no time like now to plan ahead—just make sure all your purchases make sense in the long run.”

OwlPoint Rolls Out New Service to Promote Green IT
Data Center Efficiency Takes Center Stage
December 3, 2010 - OwlPoint, an IT management consulting firm, has unveiled its new Data Center Energy Performance Assessment service utilizing the ENERGY STAR™ measurement criteria.
“On average, over 55% of UPS, cooling, and other facilities are underutilized in a data center,” explains OwlPoint CEO Mark Blanke. “This translates to a tremendous amount of wasted time, energy and resources. I am personally committed to improving data center efficiency.” Mr. Blanke is a noted expert in the field of Green IT and data center efficiency and is frequently quoted in IT trade publications such as Processor. He continues, “If our data centers don’t improve, then 340 megatons of carbon dioxide emissions are projected to be produced by data centers by 2020. This needs to change.”
OwlPoint’s latest offering allows organizations to benchmark its data center energy efficiency against comparable best in class data centers. This foundation will be the number to develop the ENERGY STAR™ Data Center rating. Armed with this information, companies can then drive continuous process improvements to ensure return on investment and improve the ENERGY STAR rating.
Mr. Blanke sums it up by stating, “Think about this: it costs $1,870 every year just to power and cool a single mid-tier server. That adds up quickly. OwlPoint’s Data Center Energy Performance Assessment allows us to determine a data center’s current energy rating and then create a plan to achieve a 75 or above to obtain an ENERGY STAR™ Data Center Rating. This should be the goal of every organization, no matter how big or small.”

"It's wonderful being quoted in an article about data center efficiency. Since Green IT is a passion, energy efficiency and real-time monitoring systems are topics I love discussing."
The article focuses on designing and building tomorrow's data centers with energy efficiency at the top of the list of priorities.
The article dovetails with the launch of OwlPoint's Smart Energy Suite powered by Green 20 Now. OwlPoint's Smart Energy Suite has brought green building management forward to better meet real business needs. It leverages cloud computing and patent-pending technology to provide a simple, easy-to-use energy management system.
Mr. Blanke explains, "As the old adage goes, 'you cannot improve what you cannot measure.' With better measurement of data center energy use and its discrete components, much better decisions can be made about opportunities to save electricity, as well as to prove that the changes that have been made actually resulted in increased efficiency."
With this system, by using any web browser, execs can access an advanced dashboard and informative iGoogle graphs that provide high-level, real-time views of energy spending, consumption, and carbon emissions.

OwlPoint Announces Partnership with ENERGY STAR®
Nationally Recognized ENERGY STAR® Partnership Validates Impact of Green IT initiatives
Hillsborough, NJ, Feb 4, 2009 - OwlPoint today announced a fundamental commitment to protect the environment by achieving ENERGY STAR Partner status. OwlPoint’s partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR means that we will be working toward helping our clients improve the energy efficiency and performance of their facilities; we believe that an organization-wide energy management approach will help our clients enhance their financial health and aid in preserving the environment for future generations.
Green IT and ENERGY STAR... A perfect combination
“Partnering with ENERGY STAR provides OwlPoint with unparalleled access to tools and resources to help us devise and implement energy-efficient strategies that are right for our customers”, says Vice-President, Bruce Webber, "Furthermore, we're excited to be recognized at a national level for our efforts in supporting and promoting energy efficiencies through our Green IT Service Offerings"
In partnership with ENERGY STAR, OwlPoint will:
- Measure and track the energy performance of our own organization’s facilities as well as our clients by using tools such as those offered through ENERGY STAR
- Assist our clients in developing and implementing plans that are consistent with the ENERGY STAR Energy Management Guidelines to achieve energy savings
- Help spread the word about the importance of energy efficiency to our clients, our staff and in the communities that we serve
- Support the ENERGY STAR Challenge, a national call-to-action to help improve the energy efficiency of America’s commercial and industrial buildings by 10 percent or more
- Highlight our achievements with recognition offered through ENERGY STAR.
By helping our clients implement Green IT best practices within their Information technology Organizations we believe we can achieve up to a 70% improvement in infrastructure energy efficiency. This could result in reduced electricity use by up to 55%. In addition, as the 2007 EPA report to congress notes, we have the capability to reduce data center electrical usage below 2006 levels during the next fives years rather than almost doubling, which would be the result if current efficiency trends continue. This projected savings in electricity use corresponds to reductions in nationwide carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of up to 47 million metric tons (MMT) in 2011.
About ENERGY STAR
ENERGY STAR is a partnership between businesses, government and others united to protect our environment for future generations by changing to energy-efficient practices today. ENERGY STAR works with more than 9,000 partners to improve the energy efficiency of products, homes, buildings and businesses. Businesses can use ENERGY STAR to improve efficiency, enhance profits, and create a competitive advantage. In 2007, Americans, with the help of ENERGY STAR, saved about $16 billion on their energy bills while reducing the greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those of 27 million vehicles.

OwlPoint Continues Green IT Leadership
Participation in Green Conference solidifies leadership position
Hillsborough, NJ, January 12, 2009 – OwlPoint reinforces its position as the leader in developing and deploying Green IT programs with its attendance at the recent “Issues Fairfax: Green Strategies for Business and Community” event. Co-hosted by George Mason University and the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce the event brought together participants from a cross section of the 250 community stakeholders representing the private sector, public sector, non-profit and civic communities. OwlPoint participated in discussions and focus groups sharing thought leadership on how to use sustainability as a framework for rethinking operations polices and focus on green practices as a function of corporate citizenship.
Joining together with other leaders from respective industries such as Cardinal Bank, West*Group and George Mason University, Bruce Webber, Vice President, OwlPoint LLC and Rick Rodgers, Managing Director of Fairfax based OwlPoint strategic partner, The Resource Network helped lead the discussions and thought process on how Information Technology (IT) can enable and further the “Green” movement.
Inconvenient Truths...
“Climate change, exponential use of energy, the rising cost of fossil fuels and toxic threats to the environment… There are a lot of ‘inconvenient truths’ out there. It is our role at OwlPoint to lead the Green IT initiative and further the overall Green cause by helping our community partners create and implement strategic Green Information Technology plans.” said Bruce Webber, Vice President, OwlPoint, LLC. “Participation in cross-industry events such as this allows us to explore ways of bringing Green industry best practices to use within Information Technology as well as sharing our Green IT best practices with a larger audience.”
According to a recent report from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory/Stanford University, overall electricity used by Information Technology servers in data centers doubled between 2000 and 2005. An EPA report to congress lists several drivers for the recent explosion in data center growth including increased use of electronic transactions in financial services, increased government regulations in digital record retention and enhanced disaster recovery requirements.
Value in Green IT ROI
OwlPoint sees the tremendous value that taking a green approach provides. Whether it is saving 50% on paper costs, reducing power consumption by 30%, or properly recycling equipment, implementing a formal Green IT strategy will have significant benefits to the IT organization, the business it supports while limiting consumption and lessening environmental impacts.

OwlPoint Commits to Continued Support for Green IT Initiatives
Participation in the Climate Savers Computing Initiative compliments OwlPoint’s Green IT leadership position
Hillsborough, NJ, Dec 31, 2008 – Continuing its support for the Green movement and solidifying their Green IT leadership position, OwlPoint today announced its affiliate membership with the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.
Climate Savers Computing Initiative member companies commit to purchasing energy-efficient PCs and servers for new IT purchases, and to broadly deploying power management. “By publicly declaring our support for this important effort, OwlPoint demonstrates our commitment to the ‘greening’ of IT,” said Mark Blanke, President. “We join other industry-leading companies and organizations blazing new trails in corporate social responsibility and sustainable IT.”
What exactly is the Climate Savers Computing Initiative?
Started by Google and Intel in 2007, the Climate Savers Computing Initiative is a nonprofit group of eco-conscious consumers, businesses and conservation organizations. The Initiative was started in the spirit of WWF’s Climate Savers program which has mobilized over a dozen companies since 1999 to cut carbon dioxide emissions, demonstrating that reducing emissions is good business. Our goal is to promote development, deployment and adoption of smart technologies that can both improve the efficiency of a computer’s power delivery and reduce the energy consumed when the computer is in an inactive state. As participants in the Climate Savers Computing Initiative, computer and component manufacturers commit to producing products that meet specified power-efficiency targets, and corporate participants commit to purchasing power-efficient computing products.
Mission: Possible
By 2010, we seek to reduce global CO2 emissions from the operation of computers by 54 million tons per year1, equivalent to the annual output of 11 million cars or 10–20 coal-fired power plants. With your help, this effort will lead to a 50% reduction in power consumption by computers by 2010, and committed participants could collectively save $5.5 billion in energy costs.
